The U.S. average retail price for a gallon of regular gasoline, all formulations, from the Energy Information Administration's weekly survey of about 900 stations, published every Monday.
It is the most visible price in the economy and a large share of what households feel as inflation. It follows crude oil with a lag of one to two weeks, plus refining margins and state taxes, so the WTI page explains most of where it is going next.
The 30-year fixed hit 7.03 percent, its first print above 7 since January 2025, and pump prices sit 43.6 percent above last year. August PCE lands Wednesday and decides whether the Fed hikes again.
