Copper is the quiet hold in a commodity tape that keeps yelling. December COMEX copper (HG=F) was changing hands near $6.57, up 0.47% in Tuesday trading per Yahoo Finance, holding firm even as the dollar firmed above 102 and the 10-year Treasury yield sat near 5%.

That combination normally does not flatter the red metal. A dollar above 102 and a 10-year near 5% raise the carry cost of holding commodities and tighten the financial conditions that heavy industrial buyers feel first. Silver, with heavier industrial beta, gave back 1.6%. Copper moved the other way, up 0.47%, and that is the tell.

Read the resilience as a demand story, not a rate story. The bid under copper is the buildout of power grids, data centers and AI infrastructure, capital spending that reshapes copper's demand curve regardless of where yields sit. Unlike gold trading on Fed-policy expectations, or crude trading on Middle East supply risk with roughly 12% of global refining capacity offline, copper is pricing near-term physical demand for electrification. That is why it shrugs off the backdrop that is squeezing the precious metals.

The Federal Reserve is the main risk to that bid. Markets price roughly a 90% chance the Fed stands pat at the Oct 28 FOMC, with the December meeting the live debate at about 78% odds of a hike by year-end. A hawkish surprise that firms the December path would lift real yields further and is the clearest drag on copper. Watch the statement and the December pricing into Wednesday's decision; as long as the industrial capex bid holds up through that test, copper's floor looks anchored near these levels.
