The AI trade that carried the S&P 500 for most of 2026 unwound this week, and the money did not leave the market, it rotated. Through Thursday's close the S&P 500 sat at 7,744.06, down 0.86% from last Friday's 7,811.54. But the damage was not spread evenly: the tech-heavy Nasdaq-100 fell 3.10% in five sessions while healthcare, staples and materials each gained more than 2%.

The legibility of that split is the story. The market decided the highest-duration names now carry the wrong kind of rate sensitivity for a 10-year Treasury near 5.09%, and it moved capital accordingly. This is a rotation, and understanding why it happened matters more than the snapshot of the loss.
