Bitcoin tops $82,000 as ETF outflows hit second week

Bitcoin climbed back above $82,000 in Monday trading, gaining about 1.2% to $82,674 over the past 24 hours, as a broad risk-on bounce that saw oil retreat and China deliver a stronger-than-expected GDP print lifted crypto along with stocks. The recovery is real but thin. It comes after last week's rough 3% slide and leaves Bitcoin sitting on two straight weeks of spot ETF outflows that undercut the very institutional demand story driving 2026's rally.
The macro picture is doing the heavy lifting today. Monday's advance tracks a global unwind of the previous week's risk-off tone, with crude prices falling and China's third-quarter GDP beat easing concerns about the world's second-largest economy. That is the same pattern that has tied Bitcoin to equities and to liquidity conditions all year, and it is the reason the move feels broad rather than crypto-specific: this is a bounce in the whole risk complex, not a rush of fresh digital-asset buyers.

Institutional flows tell a less flattering story. US spot Bitcoin ETFs saw net outflows of $228.6 million in the Oct 12-16 week, according to Farside, following the $681 million that left the funds the prior week. That marks two consecutive weeks of net withdrawals from the vehicles that have been the primary engine of institutional demand. Ether ETFs bled roughly $320 million over the same stretch. For a market that has leaned on ETF inflows as its cleanest fundamental signal, two down weeks in a row is a meaningful crack in the narrative.
The fog around the Fed is doing no favors. September CPI ran hot, with market participants sizing the annual reading near an estimated 3.7% that our research brief flags as a data gap rather than a confirmed print. The Federal Reserve's Oct 27-28 policy meeting is now squarely on the calendar, and a hot inflation number keeps the debate over how much further policy converges alive. Until that meeting, expect Bitcoin to drift inside its range: the $82,000-82,600 zone offers resistance just overhead, while support sits at $80,000-80,800. A neutral Fear & Greed reading of 50 says sentiment is balanced, which historically leaves price following flows and macro rather than leading them.

The tension to watch is straightforward. Price action says risk is back on. ETF flows say institutions are still de-risking. Those two signals will not resolve cleanly until the Fed meeting clarifies how much tighter policy needs to get, and a third straight week of fund outflows would be the clearest warning that Monday's bounce is a technical reprieve rather than a turn.
