A dozen large Grade A eggs cost an average of $2.27 at American grocery counters in August, down 36.7 percent from $3.59 a year earlier, per the BLS average price series published with the September 11 CPI report. It is the cheapest eggs have been since February 2024, and it is the single biggest decline of any item in the food basket.
