Bitcoin Holds Near $78,800 as Crypto Market Treads Water

Bitcoin traded near $78,800 early Thursday, down 0.3% on the day, as the broader crypto market drifted lower alongside a quiet macro tape. Ethereum and Solana each fell about 0.7%, tracking bitcoin's move rather than diverging from it, and bitcoin dominance held at 59.1%, near the upper end of its yearly range.

The move lines up with a mixed cross-asset tape. SPY added 0.02% and QQQ rose 0.09%, while GLD fell 1.58% and SLV dropped 1.17%, per Yahoo Finance data through Thursday's early session. Equities firm, metals soft: that combination points to a mild risk-on tilt rather than a flight to safety, and bitcoin's small decline suggests crypto isn't fully participating in that tilt today.

Spot bitcoin ETF net flows, the clearest read on institutional demand this year, were not available from issuer and aggregator sources at publication time. That gap matters. Flow data has driven bitcoin's price action for months, and without it, today's sideways trade is hard to read as either accumulation or early distribution. The concentration in bitcoin dominance could reflect defensive positioning within crypto, or simply capital rotating out of smaller tokens while institutional appetite stays on pause.

For direction, watch Friday's PCE inflation print and the delayed ETF flow figures once aggregators catch up. Both will say more about where crypto goes next than today's quiet tape does.
