Contract signings barely moved in August. The National Association of Realtors' Pending Home Sales Index, released September 17, rose 0.3 percent month over month to 71.2 while falling 4.7 percent from August 2025. For a series that predicts closings one to two months out, that flat print is the clearest demand signal available before the new-home sales figures for August arrive from the Census Bureau on September 24. It says builders should not count on a September demand rescue.
