Netflix Stock Hits a 52-Week Low, Closing at $63.90

Netflix stock hit a 52-week low on Monday, dipping to $62.865 before closing at $63.90, down 2.96%, according to Yahoo Finance data and Wall Street Observer, which cited Robinhood market data. The move answers the netflix stock searches piling up right now: investors are looking for one number that explains a week that paired a modest earnings beat with a rare admission of engagement trouble.
What the weekend report changed
Most of the damage traces to a Bloomberg report published Sunday, citing people familiar with the matter, that members open the app on fewer days per month than they did a couple of years ago. Bloomberg reported that total watch time rose only a couple of percentage points in the first half of 2026, driven by membership growth, with no wave of cancellations, per Yahoo Finance. Netflix has not published a per-member viewing figure that confirms or contradicts the report.

The company tried to get ahead of it on the third-quarter call. Co-chief executive Greg Peters told analysts, according to Yahoo Finance, that engagement is solid but the team knows it can do better, striking a more cautious tone than the earnings beat underneath. On Monday, Netflix shares fell 3% even as the broader market rose, extending the slide into a full week. Wolfe Research had also downgraded the stock on Thursday, to Peer Perform from Outperform, saying engagement is not responding to higher investment.
The earnings beat hiding underneath
Strip out the tone and the third-quarter numbers, released Oct 20, still showed a profit beat. Diluted earnings came in at $0.87 a share against a $0.82 consensus, and revenue of $12.87 billion rose 11.8% from $11.51 billion a year earlier, per the company's Form 8-K as reported by Wall Street Observer. Operating margin widened to 34.6% from 28.2%.

The guidance is the sting. Netflix forecast fourth-quarter revenue of $13.44 billion, below the $13.57 billion analysts expected, and cut its 2026 advertising outlook to about $2.7 billion from $3 billion on a slower product ramp, per Yahoo Finance. Buybacks cushioned the story: the company repurchased 63.9 million shares for $4.8 billion in the quarter, its largest quarterly repurchase on record, with $22.3 billion still authorized, per the shareholder letter filed with the SEC on Oct 20.
How the valuation reconciles
At $63.90 the stock is down about 8% from its $68.69 close on earnings day and roughly 32% year to date, per Yahoo Finance. Yet the multiple has compressed hard: Netflix now trades near 18x forward earnings, against a five-year average near 33x, and near one of its lowest trailing 12-month P/E readings in a decade, per Yahoo Finance AlphaSpace and TIKR data. The market is pricing a media company that used to grow like a platform stock.

The selling is not lonely. Disney fell about 2% to $110.11 and Spotify slipped about 2% to $570.05 on Monday as engagement worry spread across streaming, per 24/7 Wall St. The S&P 500 was roughly flat over the stretch while Netflix fell about 7% in five sessions, a wide divergence that kept pressure on the whole sector. Nielsen data cited by Yahoo Finance adds the competitive readout: YouTube took a record 14.2% of U.S. TV time in July against 7.8% for Netflix.
What to watch next
Two dated markers give the sell-off somewhere to land. Netflix reports full-year 2027 guidance in January; a revenue guide below 10% growth, per Yahoo Finance's read of analyst expectations, would suggest the viewing slide is reaching the top line. On ads, the cut to about $2.7 billion partly reflects product delays, a bar that looks beatable only if engagement stops declining. Until then, news that moves the engagement story will keep moving the stock, and netflix stock will stay on the search board.
