Diesel Tops $6 as Gas Hits $4.32: The Bill Moves Downstream

The pump number finally crossed a line worth naming: the national average for a gallon of regular gasoline hit $4.319 in the week of September 14, up 16.2 cents from the prior week's $4.157, according to the Energy Information Administration's weekly retail survey. That is the largest one-week increase in the EIA series stretching back to late July, and it puts regular gas 36 percent above the $3.168 average recorded the week of September 15, 2025.
