Alibaba set the AI industry's largest capacity target on September 22, and the whole number rests on a chip that will not ship for another two quarters. At its Apsara Conference in Hangzhou, chief executive Eddie Wu said Alibaba Cloud will operate more than 20 gigawatts of datacenter capacity worldwide by 2032, while the company's T-Head chip unit unveiled the Zhenwu V900 accelerator, which Wu called the most powerful AI chip in China (per Reuters reporting carried by Quartz and TechWire Asia, September 22, 2026). Mass production and commercial release are scheduled for the first quarter of 2027. Until that part lands, the 20GW target is a promise priced against an unbenchmarked product.
