The calm institutional bid in Ethereum ETFs is pulling further ahead of bitcoin. US spot Ethereum ETFs took in $86.95M net on Monday Sept 28 and 794.4 million dollars over the seven days before it, lifting cumulative flows to $13.97B across roughly $17.8B in assets under management, per CoinBoss ETF flow data [2]. Ether (ETH-USD) itself traded at $2,704.58 as of this writing, per Yahoo Finance. All of that buying happened while ETH itself sat near $2,704.58, still stuck inside the $2,371-$2,782 range that has contained it for the past month [3][4].

The numbers behind that headline are straightforward. Monday's $86.95M matched the prior session's $86.9M almost to the dollar, which tells you this is not a one-off spike but a steady drip [2]. Week to date the pattern is the same: $794.4M net across seven sessions, and cumulative all-time inflows now sit at $13.97B against $17.8B in total spot Ether ETF assets [2]; spot ether quotes $2,704.58 on Yahoo Finance at publish time. For a fund category many retail investors still think of as the junior partner to bitcoin, the compounding is notable: net cumulative flows are now roughly 78% of the category's entire asset base.

The divergence is the story. Bitcoin's own spot ETF flows had run seven straight sessions of $100M or more through Sept 25, a streak that broke on Monday when daily net inflows slipped to $31.1M [1]. Ether went the other way, posting its strongest sustained weekly pace while the broader crypto tape cooled. That is institutional money pointing at Ethereum specifically rather than retreating from the asset class, and it arrived with no new regulatory catalyst, just a steady build of custody demand.

What makes the picture unusual is the price action that went with it. Rangebound ETH near $2,704.58 (Yahoo Finance, this session) with relentless ETF inflows is not the profile of a market chasing a squeeze; it is the profile of accumulation absorbing what sellers are willing to offer near the top of a range. The obvious bull read is that institutional buyers are building positions at prices the broader market has stopped bidding up. The tougher read is that spot demand alone, without a derivative or momentum bid, has so far been enough to hold the range but not to break it. That distinction matters because it decides whether the next macro print becomes a breakout or a reversal.

The macro calendar is the swing factor and it lands this week. Core PCE is scheduled for Wednesday and the September employment report for Friday, with markets still pricing an elevated probability of a 25 basis point hike at the late-October FOMC [9]. A hot PCE or a strong payrolls number would tighten that path and pressure the highest-beta crypto names first, ether included. A soft print would extend the liquidity tail that powered this week's flows. For now the institutional bid is real, but it has yet to prove it can move price through $2,782, and until the macro tone settles, that is the level that decides what the ETF build actually buys.
